Touring Audio Front of House Engineer for Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol Tour

Touring Dates:

Shop Prep (on or about): November 2 - 5, 2025

Tech Rehearsals: November 7 - 15, 2025 - Owensboro, KY

Tour Start Date: November 15, 2025 - Owensboro, KY

Tour End Date: December 28, 2025 - Lexington, KY

Compensation:

$1,250 - $1,500 per week

$50 per diem deposited with payroll

Job Summary:

The Touring FOH Audio Engineer will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of all Front of House audio elements for Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol. This position requires strong leadership, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to work quickly and efficiently in various theatrical venues. The FOH Engineer will ensure high-quality audio presentation of the show in every venue, in close coordination with the Production Stage Manager, A1/A2 Audio Team, and local crew.

Primary Responsibilities & Qualifications:

- Collaborate and work directly with the Sound Designer to craft and refine a mix that blends to the Director's ear and artistic vision and a balanced artistic mix.

- Participate in daily load-in and load-out, assisting with the full department setup and truck pack.

- Oversee the daily setup and strike of all FOH gear, including the digital console, wireless microphone receivers, and processing racks.

- Support Production Management and Stage Management with pre-show checks, note sessions, and show reports as requested.

- Advance and tune the PA system in each venue to optimize the show mix for clarity and consistency.

- Mix Front of House audio for all performances, sound checks, and rehearsals.

- Work with local crew to patch and fly PA when required.

- Ensure all RF systems are coordinated and functioning, in collaboration with A2 and onstage audio techs.

- Coordinate with A2 on wireless mic placement, cue execution, and backup plans.

- Maintain and troubleshoot FOH audio equipment and signal paths throughout the tour.

- Sync the audio rig with SMPTE time code for precise cue execution.

- Time align PA systems in each venue for consistent coverage and phase conce.

- Mix roaming musicians seamlessly into the show, balancing with onstage performers.

- Remain adaptable andmunicative in touring venues and local crews.

- Document audio system setup and show file backups.

Qualifications:

- Prior touring experience or mixing theatrical musicals in regional theater in a similar role.

- Expertise with digital audio consoles such as DiGiCo, Yamaha, or Midas.

- Strong understanding of RF coordination and microphone management.

- Experience working with Dante networks and wireless systems.

- Familiarity with QLab, playback rigs, and timecode-based audio cueing.

- Proven ability to tune and time-align PA systems to adapt to varying venue acoustics.

- Experience mixing both stationary performers and roaming musicians in live theatrical settings.

- Excellentanizational skills and ability to document andmunicate effectively.

- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in high-pressure environments.

- Demonstrate collaborative teamwork with cast, crew, and venue staff.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work long days during load-in through load-out.

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with a positive attitude.
