Brick Street Bagels began in a South End apartment where founder Jordan Renouf baked bagels in the early mornings and late nights and made deliveries by bike before and after his day job. Since then Brick Street has slowly been expanding from pop-ups around the city to a semi-permanent shop in the South End.
Now, Brick Street Bagels is ready for the next step. We will be expanding to South Boston, with a permanent space to serve even more bagels, coffee, and a variety of other offerings.
Position Overview
We are hiring for two food prep roles. A BOH Bagel Baker and a Bagel Sandwich Maker . Please indicate in your application which position you are interested in (or if you are open to both).
As a Baker for Brick Street Bagels, this position will work in a fast-paced environment to boil and bake our bagels during the morning service. After the boil/bake has concluded, this position will be responsible for preparing the next days bagel dough by operating the mixer and bagel roller, wrapping
trays of bagels for refrigeration and preparing cream cheese.
As a Sandwich maker for Brick Street Bagels, this position will work in a fast-paced environment to deliver our open-faced bagel sandwich offerings. This position will be responsible for slicing bagels, working the toaster, spreading cream cheese, slicing veggies, and preparing sandwiches.
As a key member of our kitchen team, these positions will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from food preparation to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, while working collaboratively with the rest of the culinary team to ensure a smooth and efficient operation. We are seeking dynamic individuals excited to join a fun, hardworking team.
Reports to: Chief Bagel Officer (CBO)
Schedule: Ability to work 30-40 hours per week in our shop South Boston. Early Mornings are a fact of life in the baking business, and shifts may start as early as 6am. We estimate shifts will end around 1pm or 2pm. We require weekend morning availability.
Responsibilities
Food Preparation:
- Prepare and bake bagels according to established recipes and standards.
- Prepare toppings, spreads, and other menu items as directed by the CBO.
- Operate mixer and bagel roller.
- Ensure all ingredients are measured, portioned, and stored according to food safety regulations.
- Slice and toast bagels according to established recipes and standards.

- Prepare smoked salmon, veggies and other ingredients needed for open-faced sandwiches.

Cooking & Assembly:
- Learn the boiling/baking process of bagel production.
- Ensure consistency and quality of all food items prepared for service.
- Work quickly and efficiently, maintaining a high standard of food presentation.
Cleaning & Organization:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations, tools, and equipment.
- Follow sanitation and safety guidelines to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
- Regularly clean kitchen appliances, countertops, and floors.
Inventory Management:
- Assist with inventory control by monitoring stock levels of ingredients, supplies, and equipment.
- Communicate with the CBO or Manager regarding inventory needs and potential shortages.
Team Collaboration:
- Work effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth communication and timely food service.
- Follow instructions and feedback from the CBO and Manager.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working in a team-oriented environment.
Adherence to Standards:
- Ensure all food is prepared and served according to company recipes, health, and safety regulations.
- Follow food safety guidelines to ensure the highest quality standards are met.
Professionalism & Reliability:
- Arrive on time and ready to hit the ground running.
- Communicate with ample notice if you need time off.

BOH Staff Requirements
- Proven experience in a Back of House/Kitchen role in a food service or bakery establishment (required).
- Ability to stand and/or walk for the entirety of an 8+ hour shift, including the ability to move safely over uneven, or slippery surfaces.
- Attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Enjoys working with hands.
- Interest and passion for food and baking.
- Willingness to do any task big or small.
- Comfort with knives and prepping food for service.
- Knowledge of proper food labeling and storage practices, as well as best practices for properly cleaning and maintaining kitchen workspaces.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to take direction from managers and willingness to do any task big or small.
- Flexible schedule, including early mornings and weekends.

Compensation
This is a full-time position (30-40 hours/week) hourly position. $23/hr minus standard withholdings, paid biweekly.
Timeline
Our shop in Southie is still under construction but is nearing the finish. We do not yet have a firm start date but should have an idea soon. Early September is likely.
