ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary:

The Building Maintenance Worker position at the City of Tucsons General Services Department repairs and maintains the interior and exterior of all City of Tucson facilities and properties, assisting various trades units including but not limited to Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, and HVAC as assigned.

Work is performed under the supervision of a trades supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists various trades units within the department with repair or replacement of parts and equipment as well as projects at City of Tucson facilities and properties. Follows safety policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, local and City of Tucson requirements.

  • Assists via training and support in the purchasing and ordering of parts or materials needed for repairs and replacements of all assigned assets. Aids trades personnel in the documentation and data entry of labor charges, purchases, and other project related data into multiple Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Responds to emails or calls concerning maintenance tasks and projects related to trade. Responds to emails concerning maintenance tasks and projects.

  • Attends City of Tucson safety, department and unit meetings, and other required training related to the safe use of tools and equipment. Optimizes productivity by maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles, keeps workspaces clean and organized, and inspects the condition of tool inventory.

  • Works independently on minor repairs, installations, diagnostics, and projects that do not require journey-level staff.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working conditions as follows:

Work schedule may require early morning, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Often works under the following conditions: Heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or hazardous environments, which includes but not limited to dirt, grime, chemical, loud noise, and unfavorable odors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience: One (1) year of directly related experience.

Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division

Preferred Qualifications:
Remodeling or construction background.

Knowledge of building maintenance and repair or closely related fields.
