Principal Maintenance Worker - River City Sportsplex

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in maintenance, general labor, or custodial work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good oral/written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills needed; must possess or obtain within nine months of employment, a Registered Technician Pesticide License. Additionally, our ideal candidate will possess the following abilities:

  • Adapt and adjust daily as workloads demand.
  • Self-motivate to address needed facility concerns without delay.
  • Work independently with limited guidance from supervisor.
  • Respond to field safety concerns without delay.
  • Exercise great attention to detail.

Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Duties

Bring your appreciation for working outdoors to Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation. We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team. Our parks maintenance staff work year-round with early hours and a strong benefits package. You will perform a variety of grounds and other maintenance tasks that help make River City Sportsplex a place to shine in the county. In addition to litter removal, mowing, repairs to fixtures; field maintenance; minor construction and other related tasks; you will:

  • Provide impeccable customer service with visitors and other groups.
  • Complete goal moves and goal repairs, as needed, to meet user group requirements.
  • Complete net replacements and/or repairs (Soccer, Lacrosse, and Field Hockey)
  • Complete repairs to fencing and other facility amenities in support of facility operations.
  • Use of various types of goal movers (Soccer and Lacrosse).
  • Use of UTV/ATV carts for use of goal moves and clean-up.

This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Shift

Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays
