Custodian

Viterbo University invites applications for a first-shift Custodian who is an eager and service-focused individual to work independently and with a team to insure the standards of cleanliness on the campus. The Custodian position keeps the premises of campus buildings, which includes residence halls, apartments, theatres, academic, and athletic buildings in clean and orderly condition. This is a full-time position eligible for employee benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Included the following but not limited to cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, lounges, theatres, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, gym, locker rooms, and other work areas.

1. Sweep, scrub, wash, and burnish floors.
2. Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas, and upholstered furniture.
3. Dust office furniture and equipment.
4. Wash walls, ceiling, and woodwork, including windows, door panels, and sills.
5. Empty wastebaskets.
6. Transport trash and waste to disposal area.
7. Replenish bathroom supplies as needed.
8. Transport office, dorm and classroom furniture as needed.
9. Unlock and secure specified doors.
10. Responsible for minor maintenance activities.
11. To be able to work independently and with a team.
12. Manage hours according to building activities which may include weekends.
13. Maintain procedures which will ensure standards of cleanliness.
14. Other duties as assigned by Custodial Services Supervisor.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three months experience and/or training.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• General computer skills are required with the ability to read and send emails.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Ability to manage hours according to building activities which may include weekends.
• Ability to maintain procedures which will ensure standards of cleanliness.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. Viterbo University is unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of the Employment Visa.

The custodian is required to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The custodian must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. University specified attire and equipment are required. Uniform tops will be provided and must be worn throughout the school year. The employee is expected to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
