What you’ll do:
The Brass Tacks

  • Maintain and repair all areas of the hotel property, including guest rooms, meeting rooms, public spaces, and swimming pool, according to established standards and procedures.
  • In a timely manner, respond to and complete maintenance requests such as minor appliance repairs, drywall, furniture, minor electrical, caulking, and plumbing.
  • Maintain equipment such as ice machines, refrigerators, dishwashers, kitchen and laundry equipment, HVAC, trash compactor, laundry iron, etc.
  • Paint touch-ups - match paint, clean and prepare surfaces for painting, paint smooth lines, clean up afterwards, and ensure tools are properly cleaned and stored.
  • Drywall repair - seal joints, repair cracks, and smooth imperfections on walls and ceilings to create surfaces that are suitable for final treatment. Texture application and ensure that all supplies are used safely, cleaned, and stored after each use.
  • Replace batteries in smoke detectors and tv remote controls and change light bulbs in rooms and outdoor lighting fixtures.
  • Daily pool maintenance, including knowledge and proper use of pool chemicals.
  • Regularly communicate with the Front Desk and Housekeeping teams with repair status updates via the communications app.
  • Report needed repairs or unsafe conditions to the Chief Engineer and/or GM including proactive reporting of minor building issues in order to avoid large issues.
  • Conduct routine inspections of premises, tools, and maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Check exterior lighting–replacing when necessary–and irrigation on a regular basis.
  • Inspect and survey public areas daily in case unexpected issues arise.
  • Conduct periodic tours of the exterior perimeter for debris and trash removal.
  • Respond to guest complaints, special requests and ensure corrective action is taken to achieve complete guest satisfaction by working with Chief Engineer and/or GM.
  • Deliver on the promise of Columbia Hospitality in all interactions with guests according to our OMG Service Spirit standards.
  • Report any room unable to be serviced to the Front Desk, Chief Engineer, and GM according to established procedures.
  • Assist Housekeeping with deep cleaning projects as needed and coordinate with Housekeeping on preventative maintenance.
  • Handle all lost and found items according to established procedures.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other shifts and departments via the communications app.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding health and safety services, such as COVID-19.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Nitty Gritty

  • 1-2 years of previous maintenance and/or handyperson experience required.
  • Previous background from the extended stay/property management industry preferred
  • Must be able to complete all types of work orders generated for engineering.
  • Must have a general understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Journeymen level experience or equivalent in a trade or 2+ years in building maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively perform painting, woodworking, and general carpentry.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and general repair.
  • Must have knowledge and the ability to operate tools, hand tools and power tools in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be flexible and able to perform multiple tasks and work in stressful situations.
