Description

JOB SUMMARY: Provide a safe, orderly, sanitary environment, conducive to learning, for all students and faculty.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain all school buildings, ensuring a clean and orderly condition by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming classrooms, library, hallways, stairs, cafeteria, gym, office space, etc.

Perform minor maintenance repairs and/or upkeep such as replacing light bulbs, HVAC filters, etc. and other related maintenance activities as required.

Perform minor carpentry duties including furniture assembly and repair as directed.

Maintain floors including stripping, waxing, refinishing floors and shampooing rugs and carpets.

Clean snow and debris from sidewalk and parking lot by using a snow blower or snowplow, if required.

Open and close the building, secure all doors and windows, and report major repairs as needed to supervisors in a prompt manner.

Remove trash from the building, cafeteria, and outside trash cans and dump it in the appropriate location.

Check all dispensers in bathrooms and classrooms (ie. toilet paper, paper towels, feminine products.)

Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Custodial Services and/or the Director of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Some experience in custodial work preferred

High school diploma necessary

Knowledge and understanding of various cleaning chemicals is necessary

Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994

Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to reach above and below the waist

Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects

Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion

Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl

Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing no more than 75 lbs.

Ability to mostly stand, walk or move throughout the workday

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions

Must be able to work in extreme cold (32 degrees or less) and extreme heat (90 degrees or more)

Subject to physical hazards, including conditions that may affect the respiratory system and/or skin.

Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

Able to receive oral communication and convey details or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
