Performs the full range of custodial duties as they relate to the care, maintenance, and cleaning of assigned building(s). Ensures the facility is clean, maintained, secure, and prepared for the next workday. Identifies and reports building maintenance needs. Receives general supervision from the Custodial Supervisor. Is mentored by Custodian II but held to the same expectations.The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
  • Provides routine custodial care for assigned facility including, but not limited to, dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, washing floors, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, etc.
  • Performs a variety of tasks, including moving or setting up furniture, sweeping walkways, bathroom checks, waxing floors, and other miscellaneous cleanup.
  • Restocks utility closets and custodial cart. Informs supervisor when cleaning supplies low and suggests new cleaning products.
  • Identifies and reports building maintenance needs.
  • Ensures buildings are secured at end of shift according to facility procedures.
  • Adheres to safe working/driving practices and procedures.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and related activities. Attends workshops, conferences, and classes.
  • Completes projects or addresses specific requests or complaints as needed.
  • Gathers and disposes of county recycling.
  • Performs related duties as required
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • No experience required
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Class C drivers license
Knowledge of:
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
  • Practices, methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in custodial work.
  • Characteristics and use of commercial custodial compounds
  • Principles and practices of working safely
Skill in:
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
  • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Operation of various custodial equipment
  • Communication, both oral and written
Ability to:
  • Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
  • Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment
