Duties

Help

The purpose of this position is to perform beverage service functions in a bar or lounge.

Asks patrons what beverages are desired, and describes or suggests cocktails, highballs, wines or other beverages on request. Gives orders to bartender. Adds fruit or decorations as required. Receives and places beverages on a small tray and serves patrons. Observes when patrons leave and cleans table. Returns used glassware to bar. Maintains clean work area.

Collects payment from patrons when drinks are served. May dispense bottled beverages, confections and tobacco or serve any other item on request of the patron.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Ability to follow simple oral instructions, prepare checks for patrons, make simple mathematical computations, and be able to follow cash handling procedures. Must be physically able to stand, stoop, bend and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement for serving alcoholic beverages.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
