+ Measures and mixes compounds, disinfectants, and sanitizing agents and applies according to procedures or manufacturers specifications

+ Orders supplies for custodial closets and stocks with paper products, cleaning compounds and similar items

+ Sweep and vacuum floors

+ Washes windows in multi-story buildings

+ Operates heavy-duty scrubbing, buffing, shampooing, vacuuming, and wet/dry pickup equipment

+ Performs preventive maintenance on cleaning equipment

+ Uses dollies and carts to perform custodial duties

+ Ensures that floor and building area is secure

+ Verifies doors are locked and lights and appliances are off

+ Reports fire hazards and other emergencies

+ Custodians perform a variety of duties to help ensure facilities operate smoothly

+ Moves furniture, appliances, and similar heavy items
