We have an exciting opportunity for six (6) Groundskeeper positions located at our campus in San Jacinto, CA and in our campus in Menifee, CA. The Groundskeeper supports the Facilities Department by primarily maintaining the grounds. Also performs custodial duties and special projects as needed and requested by the Facilities Supervisor. Under supervision and in accordance with schedules or periodic instructions, the Groundskeeper performs general gardening work and maintains grounds in an assigned area of a campus.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. Work hours and worksite locations are subject to change depending on department needs. A six-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the district. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.Gardening/GroundsMow lawns with riding lawnmower, prunes plants, trees, shrubs and planting of new plantsPick up debris and paper and performs general grounds cleaningEdge sidewalks with edger and string trimmerMow around trees with string trimmer, operates edger's, blowers Water lawns, trees, and shrubsChecks for irrigation problems, performs minor repair and/or replace sprinklersAssist the Senior Groundskeeper in maintaining athletic fieldsAssist in the cleaning of locker roomsLock/unlock doors as neededPerform other custodial tasks as directed by Facilities SupervisorKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESThe incumbent should possess knowledge of: General gardening and grounds maintenance methodsProper methods of planting, cultivating, and caring for hedges, ornamental trees, shrubs, lawns and flowers and the use and care of gardening materials, tools, and equipmentThe incumbent should possess skills in: Using non-powered hand tools, ladders, buffers, floor cleaning machines, and special cleaning solventsWorking effectively as a team memberMeeting schedules and timelinesCommunicating effectively both orally and in writingMaintaining documentation and recordsHandling multiple assignments simultaneously and set priorities based on customer needsThe incumbent should possess the ability to: Recognize the more common species of ornamental shrubs, trees and flowers grown in CaliforniaPerform strenuous physical work, as described in this classMechanical aptitude and motor coordinationOperate skillfully small trucks and power-driven grounds equipmentRead and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the positionFollow simple oral and written instructionsLead the work of others, including the ability to provide on-the-job training, maintain cooperative working relationships with administration, faculty, students and other employeesAnalyze situations and take effective actionsPlan and organize work schedules and routinesEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
