Job Details Waiter / WaitressChez Josephine | French-American Piano Bistro | Theater District, NYC
Chez Josephine is looking for a professional, warm, and reliable waiter/waitress to join our front-of-house team.
Located in the heart of the Theater District, Chez Josephine is a historic French-American piano bistro inspired by Josephine Baker. Our guests come for more than dinner, they come for the atmosphere, live piano, romance, history, and old New York hospitality.
We are looking for someone who understands that service is not just taking orders. A great server at Chez Josephine helps create an experience.
ResponsibilitiesThe waiter/waitress is responsible for providing polished, friendly, and attentive service to all guests. This includes greeting guests warmly, explaining the menu, taking accurate orders, serving food and beverages properly, checking on tables throughout the meal, clearing and resetting tables, and making sure each guest feels cared for from start to finish.
Servers must be comfortable working during busy pre-theater service, where timing and communication are very important. Guests often have Broadway shows to attend, so the ability to move quickly while staying calm and professional is essential.
Servers are expected to learn the menu, prix fixe options, daily specials, cocktails, wine, desserts, and basic ingredients. They should be able to make thoughtful recommendations and help increase sales through appetizers, wine, cocktails, desserts, and after-dinner drinks without being pushy.
The role also includes opening, running, and closing side work; keeping service stations clean and stocked; polishing glassware and silverware; maintaining a clean dining room; and supporting the host, bartender, bussers, runners, kitchen, and management team.
QualificationsPrevious serving experience is preferred, especially in a bistro, fine dining, hotel, French restaurant, or high-volume NYC restaurant.
The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, clean, organized, well-spoken, guest-focused, and able to stay calm under pressure.
Knowledge of French food, wine, cocktails, and classic bistro service is helpful.
Speaking French is a plus.
