General Description:
The Custodian performs custodial duties at an assigned facility within the City of Charleston. This position works under close supervision and follows established procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Work Hours:
This position typically works from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, additional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required to meet departmental needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform general custodial tasks including:
Emptying trash
Cleaning restrooms
Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors
Dusting surfaces
Stripping, waxing, and buffing floors
Cleaning glass doors and windows
Opening and closing facilities
Load and stock the custodial cart
Refill supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.
Clean stairwells, lobbies, and elevators
Move furniture and files; empty shredders
Collect trash and debris from outdoor areas; sweep sidewalks
Perform light security checks while on duty
Deliver or retrieve interoffice mail
Additional Duties:
- Assist with small maintenance or repair tasks as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: At least six months of custodial or related experience
- License: Valid Driver's License required
