The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I to perform basic maintenance on commercial buildings and grounds. Performs skilled maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of equipment, buildings, and building systems, requiring skills in all building trades. Ensures that buildings and parking facilities are kept in a safe and secure condition by performing safety checks.

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $40,960-$47,104
Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Work involves the maintenance and repair of all the building and equipment for the Norfolk CSB.
  • Assists in the set up for conferences and meetings, relocates furniture and other items as needed.
  • Conducts maintenance related inspections and completes related paperwork.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Repairs/replaces light fixtures and related equipment.
  • Repairs/replaces plumbing fixtures and related items.
  • Repairs and/or constructs wall framing to include wall finishing i.e.: drywall, plaster, doors, windows, general wall repair, etc.
  • Cleans out drains and drainage systems within NCSB building locations.
  • Performs facility maintenance by checking fire extinguishers, painting, cleaning parking areas, replacing light bulbs, removing snow and ice, replacing locks and dead bolts, picking up and delivering supplies
  • Performs landscaping duties i.e.: mowing, edging, weeding, planting of flowers and/or trees, shrubs, also pruning, trimming, and related grounds tasks.
  • Performs maintenance support for emergency response team which responds for removal of ice, snow, and storm debris.
  • And Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Basic knowledge of building maintenance functions preferred.

One year of experience as a building helper or apprentice.

Additional Information & Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • May require a Forklift Operator's License within six months of appointment.
  • Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires.
