Deli Specialist - FT

We are seeking a dependable, motivated, and deli-passionate FT Deli Specialist to support the success of our high-performing deli department at our newest location in Sayville, NY. This role is ideal for someone with strong operational knowledge who is looking to grow into a future leadership position. Positioned just below the Assistant Manager level, the Deli Specialist acts as a key support figure within the teamsomeone others turn to for guidance, problem-solving, and consistent execution.

Responsibilities

• Support daily deli operations across all areas, including slicing, sandwich prep, hot foods, grab & go, and customer service
• Serve as a go-to person for team members and leadership when operational questions or challenges arise
• Demonstrate reliability and leadership qualities, helping to maintain smooth department flow during busy periods
• Step in as needed to assist with training, coaching, and onboarding of new team members
• Ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, modeling best practices for the team
• Participate in daily production and merchandising, ensuring product quality and presentation meet company standards
• Assist with inventory tasks, including ordering, receiving, and product rotation (FIFO)
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with both customers and team members in a fast-paced environment
• Support deli management with special projects or department needs as assigned
• Demonstrate passion for deli work, taking pride in food quality, presentation, and customer experience
• Exhibit initiative and drive, with a strong desire to grow into an Assistant Manager role
• Other job duties as assigned

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• 12 years of deli or food retail experience required; leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
• Strong understanding of deli operations, including slicing, prep, sanitation, and service
• Reliable, self-motivated, and committed to the success of the department
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak business periods
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
• ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
• There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
