This position is responsible for maintaining building and property cleanliness and performing routine maintenance. Provides assistance setting up for programs and displays.
- Perform comprehensive and scheduled cleaning of all library spaces including bathrooms and kitchens; garbage collection and removal; vacuuming and sweeping of floors and stairways, polishing and dusting of furniture and shelves, washing walls, and utilization of hi-speed buffing equipment
- Setup and tear down of meeting rooms and equipment (including audio and video equipment) as required
- Perform routine building maintenance and specialized cleaning including operating a carpet cleaner, floor polisher, leaf blower and various other equipment
- Maintain adequate custodial supplies including but not limited to, supplies for bathroom and general building maintenance
- Assist in various manual tasks such as emptying outside book drops and transporting of books; travel between library buildings and run errands as needed
- Inspection and general understanding of buildings mechanical systems for coordinating work requests with Town Building Maintenance Department
- Assist in opening and closing procedures including unlocking/locking the building, alarm activation/deactivation, and opening/closing secondary entrances
- Respond to inclement weather conditions including spreading of de-icing material or shoveling as required
- Perform minor repairs and painting of library spaces as needed and assigned
- Performs other related duties as requested
- Ability to perform in a courteous and professional manner at all times
- Ability to communicate and work as a team with other custodian, library staff and volunteers and maintain good working relationships
- Ability to speak and read English
- Responsive attitude to staff and library as needs arise
- Knowledge of materials methods, implements, and devices used in cleaning operations
- Ability to work well independently
- Skill in making minor repairs including carpentry and painting
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds; ability to climb and use ladders
- Ability to perform routine and occasionally strenuous work
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or basic written instructions and to perform work in a safe manner
- Proficient in email and text messaging
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Valid CT Drivers License
- Minimum of six (6) months of recent custodial experience preferred
- Verifiable work record that demonstrates good attendance, hard work, and the ability to work well with others
SCHEDULE
- 35 hours per week, Monday Saturday; One (1) evening per week and one (1) Saturday per month); occasional other hours as necessary
