JOB SUMMARY

The Evening Custodian is responsible for performing routine cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair duties to ensure a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. Working independently or as part of a custodial team, the Evening Custodian focuses on deep cleaning and facility upkeep during after-school hours when buildings are less occupied. They will also be present for evening activities. This role supports the school district’s mission by maintaining a healthy and functional learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Cleans, sweeps, dusts and vacuums assigned classrooms including floors, boards, sinks, fountains and furniture. Washes windows as needed. Empties waste baskets as needed. Daily cleans corridors as assigned by the head custodian.
• Sweeps assigned corridors nightly.
• Prepares for school activities as directed or assigned by the head custodian.
• Cleans and disinfects after-school activities as directed by the head custodian.
• Reports damage to school property to the head custodian.
• Determines nightly that all doors and windows are secured and locked.
• Ensures that all lights are off except those used for security purposes.
• Attends to bathrooms as issues arise.
• Under the direction of the head custodian, performs other duties as required to maintain a clean and attractive educational environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED
• 18 years of age or older
• Meeting requirements for trainings/screenings and professional learnings set by the district and State of Iowa
• Working knowledge of city and school locations
• Utilize computers to read district/office communications and to take required online training courses

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will require physical demands that include constant standing, walking, bending/stooping, and climbing.There

will be frequent, reaching/pushing/pulling, extreme temperatures/humidity conditions, inside/outside work conditions, and

lifting of up to 25 pounds. There will be occasional, carrying of 10 feet, and lifting of 25-75 pounds and 50-75 pounds, and

sitting. In emergencies there may be a need to lift 75-100 pounds
