Hours: Monday Friday, 7:00am 3:30pm

Job summary

Under general direction, performs location of underground water and fiber utilities, water taps and related water customer service work. Investigates customer service complaints. Installs, maintains and repairs the Citys water distribution system.

Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other

Associates degree from an accredited educational institution, or two years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in water services, water distribution, installation, or repair. State of Iowa DNR Grade I Water Distribution Certificate required within one year of hire. State of Iowa DNR Grade II Water Distribution Certificate required within three years of hire. Satisfactory driving record. Valid State of Iowa commercial drivers license instruction permit upon first day in position. Valid State of Iowa Class B commercial drivers license with air brake and tank endorsements within 6 months of hire. Meet federal drug testing requirements. Requires a pre-employment drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Must live within 25 miles of the corporate limits of Iowa City, Iowa within one year of appointment to the position.

Entry-level Driver Training (ELDT) for employees who need to obtain a required CDL is provided by the City. Employees are provided paid time to complete ELDT and to take required CDL tests. Information on how to obtain an Iowa CDL including the CDL manual and practice test are available at
