The Assistant Cook is responsible for large quantity preparation of breakfast items, vegetables, basic sauces salads, soups (other than homemade) and bakery items which are ready to bake or prepared from simple mixes, for patients, personnel, catered and off-site services. Under direct supervision of cook or supervisor and with appropriate training, may assist in production of homemade soups, roast meats, entrees, casseroles, sauces, gravies and baked items. Exhibits knowledge of quality food standards, methods of food preparation appropriate to position, sanitation standards established by regulatory agencies, operation of food service equipment, materials needed and the ability to adjust recipe quantities to the appropriate size to meet production orders.

Required Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* One year experience in large quantity food service; assisting in preparation of vegetables, soups, breakfast food items, salads and simple baking.
* Must possess a good driving record and valid Wisconsin driver's license.
* Must be able to read and interpret directions on package and can labels. Must be able to do basic arithmetic for recipe adjustment and to keep accurate records as assigned.
* Must be able to work under pressure to complete assigned duties according to a rigid rime schedule.
* Must be able to follow verbal and written directions.
* Must be able to plan and perform daily activities in an accurate and timely manner. Must demonstrate pleasant customer-oriented attitude to patients and staff.
* Must be able to work well with others as part of a team.
* Must observe confidentiality regarding knowledge of patients.
* Must keep accurate records as appropriate and participate in yield studies and new product evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Formal training through food service courses.
