Title: Custodian

Reports To: Head Custodian

Employment Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications: 1. High school graduate or equivalent.

  1. 18 years of age or more.

  2. Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record.

Key Functions:

A. DUTIES (GENERAL)

Performs routine maintenance repair of the building and its equipment plus all phases of housekeeping duties.

Dust-mops corridors no less than twice a day.

Wet-mops corridor/entrance ways on rainy days.

Empties waste baskets more often than once a day if necessary.

Dusts all horizontal and semi-horizontal surfaces where dust accumulates noticeably.

Sweeps all hallways, classrooms, shower rooms and offices. A report shall be made to the principal about any seriously abnormal conditions existing in these rooms and areas.

A final check on presentable conditions is to be made of all areas where there are to be extra-curricular groups present in the evening.

Sweeps the cafeteria floor and arrange seating after the lunch period. Wax and mop floor as required.

Fills all paper towel, toilet tissue and soap dispensers.

Clean and disinfect toilet bowls.

Mops and disinfects toilet rooms.

Cleans and disinfects wash basins.

Sweeps stairs and dusts railings.

Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains nightly.

Sweeps and mops the kitchen floor.

Make a check of supplies

Shall be made to take care of and maintain equipment used to perform job duties.

Locks and unlocks doors as scheduled.

Raises and lowers the school flag unless it is stormy.

B. DUTIES (WEEKLY)

Dusts the following in corridors: molding, fire equipment, pictures, banks, sills, lights.

Dusts all peripheral wall surfaces every two weeks.

Washes the cafeteria and corridor walls where needed.

Thoroughly scrubs the kitchen floor.

Checks pencil sharpeners and has needed parts installed.

Checks for needed repairs and repairs them or reports them to sources as directed by organizational pattern.

Thoroughly wet mops and disinfects kindergarten floors.

Removes spots and stains from carpeted areas as needed.

C. DUTIES (MONTHLY)

Cleans light fixtures in classrooms.

Washes both sides of interior glass.

Waxes and seals corridors where needed (especially near entrance ways).

D. DUTIES (THANKSGIVING VACATION)

Scrubs and waxes teachers' desks.

Scrubs all areas needing attention.

E. DUTIES (WINTER VACATION)

Washes and rewaxes classroom floors (other rooms where needed).

Washes the inside of window panes.

Washes all corridors, walls where necessary and floors (seal where it is necessary).

F. DUTIES (UNSCHEDULED)

Performs miscellaneous repairs.

Sprays rooms to eliminate insects.

Keeps supply rooms orderly and properly equipped.

Attends meetings, if scheduled.

Helps make studies and keep records.

Performs emergency cleaning in case of accident, etc.

Operates and maintains heating and ventilating equipment.

Maintains a clean, safe and well organized boiler room.

Removes snow, ice and debris from walks, steps and entry ways.

Unloads trucks. Receives, checks and stores supplies.

Performs various chores requested by principal and head custodian

Collects debris and places it in a container for removal by truck.

Maintains grounds.

Secures the building.

G. OTHER

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue

  2. Prolonged and irregular hours
