The Groundskeeper performs duties in the maintenance of grounds and outdoor facilities including stormwater facilities for Towson University through activities including cultivating, planting gardens, watering, fertilizing, weeding, lawn, mowing, trimming and pruning shrubs and trees. This position performs activities in all types of weather conditions including snow removal. This position requires a broad range of skill sets including the ability to operate or learn to operate hand tools and multiple types of motorized landscape equipment. The selected candidate must be able to pass the registered pesticide applicator training and must have a driver’s license. Typical Hours are 6am-2\:30pm. Preparing areas for daily campus activities. Performs storm water facility maintenance assistance. Removes dirt, trash and debris from assigned areas and transports same to appropriate disposal facility.

Operates hand and power equipment such as mowers, tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, edgers, and small vehicles. Performs routine assembly, cleaning and maintenance of equipment as needed.

Performs ground maintenance activities including cultivating, planting, watering, fertilizing, hand weeding, mowing and/or pruning, lawn mowing, gardens, shrubs and trees. Plants shrubs, trees, flowers, natives and vegetation following detailed directions from leads according to preapproved plans. Assists in the maintenance of outdoor fields and if needed, athletic facilities.

Performs removal of snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment. Spread salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping. Performs groundskeeper and other duties as required for other emergencies if necessary.

Measures, mixes and applies fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals following specific instructions.

This position is an Essential Personnel position for emergencies such as snow removal, special events, storm damage, power outages and other emergencies that occur.

Valid Maryland Noncommercial Class C or equivalent driver's license may be required. Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
