Description

The Olney Manor Management Area is made up of 44 parks. These parks cover 3841 acres and include 3 Recreational Parks, Local Parks, Conservation Parks, Neighborhood Parks, 50 athletic fields, 50 tennis courts, and 36 playgrounds. Under the supervision of a park maintenance leader, the selected candidate performs a wide variety of professional park operations within the Olney Manor Management Area. They will assist with diverse park operations and programs within the Olney Manor Management Area to provide a secure, safe, and enjoyable park experience for the public.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Operating non-CDL vehicles and equipment including riding mowers, tractors with attachments, trucks, front-end- loader, backhoe.
  • Landscaping duties include spreading grass seed, lime, fertilizer, and topdressing on fields by operating tractor with attachments. Also, includes planting, trimming, and pruning trees and shrubs.
  • Performs maintenance and installation of park fixtures and furnishings.
  • Athletic field maintenance includes operating tractor w/ attachment to rake, drag and grade fields. Also sprays pesticides.
  • Track and record daily work assignments for EAM.
  • Keep supervisor up to date on assigned work tasks.
  • Responds to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, and earthquakes.
  • General custodial duties including cleaning restrooms, meeting room set-ups, relocation of equipment and furniture, mopping, sweeping, stripping, and refinishing floors along with general repairs.
  • Performs reuse and recycle collections.
  • Performs assignments as part of a group but may occasionally work alone.

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires a combination of field and office work. Work conditions may include exposure to various elements and adverse weather conditions.
  • Work requires constant bending, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects of up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds.

Additional Information:

  • The selected candidate for this position will primarily work outside and will be exposed to all types of weather.
  • Working on weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required.
  • The incumbent may be exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pass Commission medical examination.
  • 18 years of age.
  • Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi-skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
