We are currently seeking a Maintenance Worker for our Public Works Street/Stormwater Department. The Public Works Department constructs, repairs, and maintains streets and other related projects, which includes removal and replacement of curbs, gutters, and miscellaneous concrete and asphalt formations; roadway grading and shouldering; stormwater control and equipment maintenance. The Maintenance Worker performs maintenance tasks within facilities and public rights-of-way, working both individually and with a crew as needed. In addition, the Maintenance Worker provides support for a variety of community special events. The work can be physically demanding and unclean, and the Maintenance Worker may be subject to callback during emergencies on a 24-hour basis and may be required to work occasional evening, weekends, or holidays during special events.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and some work experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair tasks. He or she must be a self-starter prepared to get to work with a positive attitude who has the physical strength and stamina to perform the rigorous duties of this job. A valid drivers license is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs routine tasks such as weeding, raking, watering, mowing, edging, shoveling, field preparation, custodial duties, and litter pick up
- Completes light construction, repair, landscaping, and facility maintenance duties as assigned following all safety practices/procedures
- Performs minor and semi-skilled facility maintenance operations such as replacing single motor belts, unplugging toilets, and changing light bulbs and filters
- Cleans and repairs trails, sidewalks, streets, playgrounds, play equipment, grounds, buildings, and other public owned facilities
- Removes brush and debris from park grounds, open space, and public rights-of-way
- Provides support for a variety of community special events, including supporting the event management team, traffic control, site preparation, security, and site clean up
- Helps with storm recovery, and other emergencies during and outside of normal work hours
- Completes any reports or logs
- Follows all safety policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience preferred
- Valid driver's license
- Experience using a variety of hand and power tools
- Highly professional and dependable
- Able to work independently on projects and as a member of a team
- Able to follow spoken and written instructions
- Must follow all safety and health rules and regulations
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather (heat, rain, etc.)
- Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
