About this role Responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks including general mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs. Transports and stocks materials and equipment in designated storage areas. Troubleshoots and manages time to complete assigned work orders. Assists with set up of campus events or internal building and office relocations to include moving furniture and equipment.

What a day of a Maintenance Worker looks like

  • Assists in repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment for campus or college.

  • Replaces defective or obsolete electric light bulbs, fuses, lamps, and fixtures.

  • Cleans clogged drains and toilets and assist in performing other plumbing repairs.

  • Changes filter in air conditioners; performs plumbing and electrical repairs on heating and air conditioning or other mechanical system, as required.

  • Moves or assists in the moving of furniture and equipment as required and provide set-ups for various spaces throughout campus.

  • Maintains and repairs physical structure of building and maintain grounds of campus or college. Pressure cleans college buildings and walkways.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on college vehicles such as checking battery and radiator fluid levels restoring water or other fluid when necessary.

  • Routinely operates vehicles including moving van and bucket truck in performing job duties. Transports materials and equipment to, from and within storage areas and operating areas.

  • Follows established safety practices. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace.

  • Performs general clean up or grounds keeping duties according to the needs of the department. Hauls collected debris to onsite refuse collection location. Keeps department and campus facilities in clean, litter-free and in an orderly condition.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Some related experience

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

Ability to:

  • Use a variety hand and power tools, machines and equipment

  • Work a fluctuating schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and college closures

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds

  • Reach and grasp objects

  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Stand for extended periods of time

  • Use of video display terminal

  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color

  • Communicate information orally and in writing

  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication

  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy

  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury

  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions

  • Risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens

  • Operate motor vehicle

  • Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $15.38 hourly; however, the offer may vary based on the candidates education and experience.
