Head Custodian Job Description
We're looking for an experienced and dedicated Head Custodian to lead our custodial team and ensure our facility remains a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment. This is a vital leadership role where you'll directly supervise and develop a team of seven custodial staff, fostering a positive and productive work atmosphere.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Supervision:
Directly manage, train, and mentor a team of seven custodial staff members.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback to ensure high standards of work.
Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment.
Custodial Operations & Oversight:
Develop and implement efficient cleaning schedules and routines for all areas of the facility.
Conduct regular inspections to ensure all areas meet cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards.
Oversee the proper use and maintenance of all cleaning equipment and supplies.
Perform custodial duties as needed, especially during peak times or staff shortages.
Evening Shift Operations:
Work consistent late shifts to accommodate facility usage and ensure thorough cleaning and preparation for the next day's operations.
Oversee closing procedures and secure the facility as required.
Inventory Management:
Maintain accurate inventory records for all custodial supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
Order and receive supplies, ensuring optimal stock levels to prevent shortages and minimize waste.
Manage the budget for custodial supplies and equipment, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Equipment Maintenance & Safety:
Ensure all custodial equipment is in good working order and regularly maintained.
Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment.
Promote and enforce all safety regulations and procedures, including proper handling of chemicals and operation of machinery.
Identify and report any maintenance needs or safety hazards to the Facilities Manager.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications are a plus.
Proven experience in custodial services, with at least 2 in a supervisory or leadership role.
Strong knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and equipment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility to work late shifts and occasional weekends as needed.
Physical ability to perform custodial duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
