TITLE: Custodian

JOB GOALS:

To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

To support the delivery of the Lee County School Districts written, taught,

tested, and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student

achievement.

To ensure the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude

toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to the public, staff,

parents and students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to work.

Has physical ability to successfully complete assigned tasks.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building principal or designee.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

(These responsibilities may be divided between or among custodians as building needs vary)

Keeps building and premises including side walks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.

Regulates heat/cooling/ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure maximum economy.

Clears ice, snow, mud or other hazards from walkways and steps as needed.

Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during hours of building occupancy.

Sweeps/vacuums and cleans classrooms daily.

Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day as needed.

Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.

Washes all windows on both inside and outside as needed

Keeps the grounds free from trash/litter.

Is responsible for cutting grass, plant trimming and the like to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.

Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of presentation.

Makes such minor repairs as assigned by principal.

Reports major repairs needed and any damages to school property immediately to the principal.

Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal.

Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.

Maintains an inventory of supplies.

Moves furniture or equipment within building as required for various activities as directed by the principal.

Assists the central maintenance crew occasionally as directed by the principal.

Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

20. Maintains high standards, ethical behavior and confidentiality of student issues.

21. Exemplifies strong work ethics and professionalism (i.e. promptness, attendance and professional dress).

OTHER DUTIES:

Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The salary and length of contract shall be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal or designee in accordance with approved board policy.
