Job Summary :

The groundskeeper is to provide a variety of landscaping duties, such as maintaining lawns, trimming trees, applying pesticides, planting flowers and grass, maintaining and repairing equipment. Parish property includes areas along FM78, areas around the parish and school, office, church, Thrift Store, parish hall, Stations of the Cross, Rectory and field along Legion Street. Work schedule varies as this is a seasonal job.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general outdoor services and maintenance, such as watering plants, mowing the lawn, sweeping entry areas as well as sidewalks
  • Edge (weed eater) along all sidewalks, streets, and against building to all of the above-mentioned areas
  • Pick up trash and rake leaves at all designated areas
  • Trim, prune bushes, vines, hedges and trees
  • Ensure flower beds are fertilized and mulched
  • Water young trees and grassy garden areas that do not have a sprinkler system
  • Call City of Converse to pick up brush on a monthly basis
  • Performs ground equipment repair and preventative maintenance
  • Dispose of grass cuttings, tree trimmings, leaves and place in dumpster
  • Maintain all lawn equipment and supplies, ensure safe and sanitary storage and care of grounds keeping products
  • Report repairs and replacements and purchase materials needed for maintenance, repairs after approval has been obtained from Pastor
  • Use safe and proper insecticides to prevent infestation by pests
  • Keep storage room neat and clean
  • Clean, disinfect and store all equipment (according to manufacturer's recommendation, including lubrication) at the end of the shift
  • Lock down facility at the end of the shift

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • General skills/working knowledge of safety procedures related to operating a riding and push lawn mowers, weed eaters/edgers, trimmers, pruning tools, chain saw, backpack blowers and other powered/non-powered landscaping tools, tractor and aerator, mulcher shredder or auger
  • Ability to safely load/unload tractors on trailers
  • Working knowledge of landscaping equipment and how to maintain them
  • Understand safety protocols such as disposal of chemicals and other hazardous items
  • Comfortable with basic landscaping and maintenance tasks
  • Detail-oriented and conscientious
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with minimum supervision
  • Ability to perform any duties required to get the job completed
  • Ability to troubleshoot, think quickly and follow directions
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules or routines
  • Ability to work well alone or with a partner or team; reliable and punctual with dedicated professionalism to job and duties
  • Ability to read business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Strong communications skills, ability to follow verbal directions and effectively present information and respond to question

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent evening and/or weekend hours
  • Exposure to climate changes, inclement weather/temperatures, fumes

Mental/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks
Requirements

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience:

  • Minimum of at least three years experience with landscaping/lawn care, gardening or nursery type experience
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
