SCOPE OF POSITION: The HVAC/General Maintenance Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and associated systems at the Rockingham County Complex.The Facilities Operations team is committed to providing the employees and residents at Rockingham County a safe, supported, and environmentally conscious environment. The HVAC/General Maintenance Technician troubleshoots/repairs HVAC and associated equipment, evaluates/makes recommendations regarding repair or replacement of HVAC equipment, implements scheduled preventive maintenance programs, responds to calls from facility personnel, prepares/submits work orders, responds to fire alarm activations, and performs regular rounds of the facilities, inspecting for safe and proper operations/conditions. The HVAC/General Maintenance Technician participates in a rotating on-call schedule, cross trains across the Facilities department, may assist co-workers with their job responsibilities, and is required to respond to emergency situations, such as snow removal, at the County Complex for up to 16 hours.

• Possession of valid Universal EPA Certification for freon recovery.
• Knowledge, skills and abilities normally acquired through a high school education and/or the equivalent;
• Three to five years of experience in industrial and/or commercial maintenance or the equivalent in vocational/technical training plus;
• A minimum of two years demonstrated experience.
• A working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, pipefitting and carpentry methods and procedures.
• Possession of a valid drivers license.
