Job Summary

The Art Institute of Chicago dining facilities are a partnership with culinary leaders from Levy and Boka Restaurant Group. The shared vision of these iconic Chicago brands work to transform the food and beverage experience at the museum and are looking to add the best individuals to our team. Daily operations include food and beverage service of The Cafe, Modern Bar, and The Member Bar. You will also find additional opportunities to help us host world class events in this iconic location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promptly and warmly greet guests in the dining room and provide service in an efficient manner, following the established steps.
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of all menu items and ingredients, including allergens. As requested, advise guests on appropriate combinations of food and drinks, accommodate reasonable requests, and note preferences.
  • Communicate directly with back of the house staff to ensure that orders are delivered correctly, and all special requests are addressed and accommodated.
  • Exhibit exceptional communications skills, ability to get along well with others, demonstrate flexibility and patience along with and interest in people and a willingness to verbally communicate with guests and staff.
  • Deliver food promptly and professionally following the established steps of service and maintaining safe food handling and sanitation standards. Follow up periodically to assist with any additional needs or requests.
  • Promptly address and correct any complaints or issues. Relay relevant information or complaints directly to supervisor.
  • Ensure that all guest-facing and non-guest-facing spaces are properly set-up prior to and after service period. Keep clean and neat while meeting all established sanitation standards.
  • Work alongside staff of other departments in performing job duties and for any special events or functions.
  • Follow beverage recipes precisely and always serve alcohol responsibly.
  • Serves customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service.
  • Quickly clears dirty table settings and prepares table for resetting; promptly and consistently resets all service ware as prescribed.
  • Maintains stock and cleanliness of stations for all meal periods with necessary equipment, including silverware, linen and condiments; wipes down booths and chairs, moves tables and chairs, and cleans floors as necessary.
  • Transports all dirty tableware from dining room to dishwashing area.
  • Distributes and stocks supplies, utensils and portable equipment.
  • Performs all assigned side work, including replenishing condiments and restocking side stands.
  • Assures compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as cleaning unexpected spills, handling special guest requests, and greeting and seating guests.
