Job Description:
Job Summary: The Food Service Worker - Behavioral Health performs a variety of functions and tasks pertinent to food preparation, service, distribution of food to psychiatric patients and staff, and general kitchen maintenance to include preparing and delivering food trays to hospital psychiatric patients and performing any combination of the following food duties: assembles and serves food items in hospital cafeteria; apportions and places food on plates and trays according to diet list on menu order; serves trays to patients; collects and stacks dirty food pans and serving utensils on cart and returns cart to kitchen; washes trays and cleans work area, tables, cabinets, and ovens; and collects and places garbage in designated containers. The Food Service Worker - Behavioral Health works in various areas of the department (e.g. patient/cafeteria tray line, dish room, pots and pans, sanitation and/or storeroom). The Food Service Worker - Behavioral Health works varying hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Transports bulk food items, nourishments, supplies, and special item requests to Trinity Springs' kitchen. Collects food pans, serving utensils, and carts them back to the kitchen for washing. Processes soiled trays through dish machine.
- Accurately apportions food items for patient meal service in accordance to accompanying menus and/or dietary requirements and patient requests.
- Inspects patient trays on tray line and ensures food items match menu and instructions for patient diet orders.
- Prepares food items and simple recipes (e.g. sandwiches, salads, beverages, and snacks).
- Places food in pushcarts and physically pushes (pushing force less than 50 lbs.) those to Trinity Springs' kitchen.
- Washes and stores all trays, pots, pans, and tableware.
- Returns leftover food to cooks after mealtime and stores other foods appropriately.
- Stocks meal service and nourishment supplies for feeding.
- Maintains a sanitary work environment. Cleans equipment used during meal services including steam tables, carts and counters and sanitizes serving utensils, trays, and other service items.
- Inspects equipment (e.g. tray carts, commercial equipment) and reports equipment malfunctions and/or need for repair to management.
- Follows correct food temperature maintenance, safe work practices, and uses safe food handling techniques (e.g. HACCP, Code Compliance and other regulatory procedures). Records food temperatures in temperature log. Records temperatures in dish machine and refrigerator logs.
- Exhibits and meets personal hygiene in compliance with the Network and health and safety code requirements.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and policies that impact Nutritional Services.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Food Handlers Certification (within 30 days of hire). Must be obtained through an approved TXDSHS licensed program/provider.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent
- 3 plus years of experience working in the food service industry performing food preparation, dish washing, and/or hospitality services related to food management, catering, etc.
- Experience working on a cafeteria/tray line to include pushing food trays in a large cafeteria setting (e.g. hospitals, correctional institutions, colleges, etc.).
- Training experience in dealing with mental health, diverse people, or related area of conflict management.
