The Public Works Maintenance Worker I performs manual labor tasks in and around the city, including but not limited to digging trenches and sweeping debris from the streets. The employee is exposed to and must be able to work in adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, rain, strong odors and or smoke, exposure to dust or pollen, heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair and replace asphalt and concrete on city property and right of ways using hand and power tools
Use hand tools to dig ditches or holes
Hand shovel dirt, gravel, concrete, or asphalt
Tamp, pack, and level dirt, asphalt, or other materials
Load and unload materials and equipment
Trim trees, pick up brush and load brush onto a truck
Cut grass using a push or power mower or power trimmer
Occasionally operate other light equipment
Maintains a safe working environment. Wear the required PPE
Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required: High school diploma
Required: Valid Texas Driver s License
Required: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety policies, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
Required: Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Required: Ability to speak effectively among co-workers
Preferred: Previous experience and knowledge of arboricultural and horticultural practices
Preferred: Previous experience with maintenance equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED
REQUIRED: Valid TX Driver s License, CDL preferred
REQUIRED: Pesticide Applicator License preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year

variety of uneven, sometimes slippery surfaces, work in or near traffic. Stand and walk while working for
extended periods of time; Good motor coordination skills, worker must be able to coordinate his or her eyes,
hands, fingers, and feet rapidly.
