This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.

Required: Must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Excellent communication and customer service skills are a must. Knowledge of how to greet the public courteously, obtain information and give accurate and understandable information. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED and Mandated Reporter certifications or obtain certifications within 30 days of hire.

Preferred: Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer work experience in reception and customer service including basic computer work.

Essential Functions of the Position

Park District Cornerstones

  • Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
  • Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation and the Community Center Supervisor the Pottawatomie Community Center Guest Services Associate shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:

  • Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public, cooperating agencies and fellow employees.
  • Answer telephones, respond to emails and to greet and accommodate customers.
  • Must be able to multi task.
  • Be knowledgeable of all district facilities and operations. Use resources available to respond to patron and staff needs.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and with limited direction; anticipate needs for successful operation of facility.
  • Serve as the building manager on duty at all times FT staff are not present.
  • Work to resolve customer concerns in a respectful and sensitive manner.
  • Effectively communicate orally.
  • Process registrations, collect fees, issue receipts and initiate refunds for activities, events and rentals.
  • Notify class participants of class changes or cancellations.
  • Recognize, report, and respond to any unsafe conditions and hazards and execute effective emergency action plans.
  • Report building and equipment repairs to direct supervisor.
  • Operate various office machines such as copier, fax, telephone, postage meter, computer and printer as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge and the ability to enforce and explain Park District procedures, rules and policies.
  • Maintain an orderly and professional atmosphere at the service desk.
  • Keep the service desk and lobby areas clean and neat.
  • Open and distribute incoming mail and dispatch outgoing mail.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Perform first aid, AED and CPR and execute emergency procedures as necessary.

Marginal Functions of the Position

  • Perform other related duties and/or special projects as assigned.
  • Set up and take down rooms for programs and rentals.
  • Assist and maintain the building cleanliness and integrity.
