This position supports the operations department by performing janitorial duties. This person ensures buildings are thoroughly cleaned to maintain an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates meticulous attention to cleanliness and detail.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform necessary janitorial duties in assigned areas at assigned times.
  • Dust desks, chairs, counters, blinds, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms including sinks, urinals, toilets, stalls, walls, and mirrors; replenish paper products and soaps.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, wax, strip, and polish floors as needed.
  • Spot clean carpets and upholstery.
  • Refill supplies and dispensers such as paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
  • Empty wastebaskets, recycling bins, and trash receptacles; clean, sanitize, and reline as necessary.
  • Wipe down tables, chairs, desks, and countertops.
  • Arrange furniture and equipment to maintain the orderly appearance of rooms.
  • Assist janitorial staff with special projects as assigned.
  • Follow established cleaning methods, equipment, and chemical usage in accordance with school procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to company health, safety, and security guidelines; wear appropriate protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain punctuality and attendance for scheduled shifts.
  • Report maintenance issues or repair needs promptly to Janitorial Supervisor and/or Lead Janitor
  • Keep accurate records of hours worked.
  • Respond to emergency clean-ups and understand bio-hazard cleaning procedures.
  • Attend in-house safety and skills training sessions.
  • Support school safety and security by ensuring buildings and property are secure.

Requirements:

  • Regular attendance and physical presence at the job.
  • Ability to work the second shift schedule (Sunday - Thursday from 4:00pm - 12:30am).
  • Occasionally move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials Extensive use of hands (reaching, bending, extending hands) required
  • Reach above and below shoulder height, constant walking, standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, lifting, kneeling, etc.
  • Work in varying temperature environments (internal and external parts of the building).
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects on level surfaces, ladders, and/or stairways.
  • Use a variety of power cleaning equipment such as backpack vacuums, floor machines, wet-vacuums, buffing machines, carpet machines, etc.
  • Use a variety of housekeeping equipment including mops, brooms, dusters, etc.
  • Handle a variety of commercial chemicals including floor stripper, floor finish, toilet bowl and bathroom cleaners, all-purpose cleaners, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, detail-oriented environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year previous janitorial experience in a commercial or educational environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write (English) at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Understanding of safe work practices.
  • Current valid California drivers license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.

Pay range:

In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2025-2026 academic year. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $22.00 - $32.00 per hour. Within this broad range, we pay in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
