    Oak Park and River Forest High School , or OPRF , is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate.

    Qualifications/Experience :
    A minimum of a High School Degree. Must complete Food Handler Training within two (2) weeks of being hired. Must have prior experience as cashier. Must be able to comprehend detailed oral and or written instructions from supervisory staff. He/she must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members and be able to work independently on regularly assigned or special tasks.
    Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
    1. Performs the advance and daily food preparation for meals served to Dist #200 and/or Dist. #97 students and staff.
    2. Works with other serving area staff to place orders with the Department Leads for specific items for each days menu (hot and cold sandwiches, hot entrees, etc.) to be served the following day.
    3. Assists in monitoring the stock levels of regularly stocked meal components and supplies and advises the office of the need to rebuild the inventory, giving adequate advance notice in order to satisfy the menu each day.
    4. Assists in preparing the food components of the days menu by operating equipment such as, but not limited to, the slicer, steamers, grills, ovens, tilt skillet, steam-jacketed kettles and fryers.
    5. Assists in the set-up, cashier and service of meals to customers, emphasizing high-quality customer service.
    6. Closes down and cleans the serving area and equipment, leaving the area ready for the next days meal service.
    7. Returns to the Main Kitchen from serving areas by the designated time in order to begin advance preparation work for the next meal service.
    8. Assists the Department Heads by assuming a share of the responsibility of the departments work in satisfying daily and special orders and general production needs.
    9. Assists the Department Heads by learning all tasks in the department and demonstrating the ability to perform them.
    10. Communicates regularly with the Department Heads to review production needs and matters of quality in order to maintain a well-run department.
    11. Assists the Department Heads in monitoring the condition and operation of department equipment in order to advise the office of the need for repair or replacement of these.
    12. Assists the Department Heads by assuming a share of the responsibility for the implementation of all prescribed food sanitation practices.
    13. Helps to monitor conditions in the production areas and assists in the routine daily cleaning of the preparation, service and storage areas.
    14. Shares in the deep cleaning of all production and serving areas periodically as the need arises and the work schedule permits.
    15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service or Assistant Director

    Physical/Visual Activities:
    Standing, sitting, lifting, carrying reaching, fine motor dexterity, talking, hearing, visual acuity: near visual acuity required. Ability to lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds alone; fifty (50) pounds with assistance.

    Physical Demands:
    Significant physical demands such as; lifting, pushing and pulling heavy items. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, a minimum of three and one-half hours, continuously; frequent bending, stooping and reaching required.

    Environmental Conditions:
    May be required to work in a hot, cold and/or damp environment or on slippery floors. .

    Terms and Conditions:
    A 171 day work year (August June) is required. Must complete Food Handler Training within two (2) weeks of being hired.
