SUMMARY

Maintains premises as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no experience required. Preference may be given to applicants with six or more months' experience in custodial/maintenance. Vocational-education training in related fields is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Empty all interior and exterior trash and recycling containers. Wash containers as necessary. Replace liners. Dispose of all waste in dumpsters.
  • Sweep and mop all hard surface floors excluding shop areas.
  • Vacuum carpeted floors and walk off mats.
  • Spot clean carpet stains.
  • Clean and dust all surfaces.
  • Clean entry doors and interior glass walls/surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms including urinals, toilets, sinks, partitions, floors, walls, towel dispensers, feminine hygiene receptacles, mirrors, etc.
  • Clean and sanitize drinking fountains, tables, chairs, sinks and counters, commons/break areas.
  • Replenish paper and soap supplies.
  • Buff floors.
  • Wipe down vending machines and appliances.
  • Clean air grills and vents.
  • Dust light fixtures.
  • Annual floor care including stripping, waxing, and scrubbing of floors.
  • Clean exterior surface of windows as needed.
  • Shampoo all carpets twice annually.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and facility.
  • Report any maintenance needs immediately.
  • Clean and dispose of blood and bodily fluids, as well as, other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) as needed.
  • Assist with securing the building after evening classes and events.
  • Help with snow and ice removal.
  • Assist other custodians with team projects as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sweeping, mopping, window washing, operating floor and carpet cleaning machines, lifting chairs and tables and other furniture and appliances, as well as, all other duties required for the upkeep and appearance of buildings and grounds as directed by supervisors. Employee must pass a school-provided medical examination. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
