Job Description

Responsibilities Include:

Makes general minor repairs

Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment

Paints independently or under direction of craftsmen

Assembles swing sets, slides, benches, picnic tables and other equipment

Assists higher-level Maintenance Mechanics in maintenance, repair and overhaul

Assists craftsmen

Operates and performs basic maintenance and simple repairs

Loads and unloads materials and cleans tools

Uses instructions and parts manuals in performing a variety of duties

Job Qualifications

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the trade areas to which the incumbent is assigned; good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to interpret and work from rough sketches; ability to make rough estimates of time and material requirements; ability to develop skill in the use and care of the tools, materials and equipment of the trade area concerned; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Either:

Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas; or,

Two (2) years of experience in minor maintenance or repair work; or,

An equivalent combination of education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of the first two above; or,

One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic I.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Depending on the nature of the assignment, at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, candidates may be required to possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the vehicle to be operated.
