About the Role:
Part-Time, Every other weekend required, 10AM-6PM
The Dietary Aid at Heritage House of Portage, VLM, plays a crucial role in supporting the nutritional and dietary needs of residents within a public administration healthcare setting. This position ensures that meals are prepared, delivered, and served in accordance with established dietary guidelines and individual resident care plans. The Dietary Aid collaborates closely with dietary staff, nursing personnel, and other care team members to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient food service environment. Attention to detail and adherence to food safety standards are essential to promote the health and well-being of all residents. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall quality of life and satisfaction of residents by providing compassionate and attentive dietary support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and dietary guidelines accurately.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with residents and team members.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving lifting and carrying.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a dietary or food service role, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
- Certification in food handling or dietary aide training.
- Familiarity with special diets such as diabetic, low sodium, or texture-modified diets.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
- Demonstrated empathy and patience when working with elderly or medically fragile populations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals according to prescribed dietary plans and resident preferences.
- Ensure all food items are handled, stored, and served in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Deliver meals to residents in a timely and courteous manner, accommodating special dietary needs and restrictions.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas, including dishwashing and waste disposal.
- Collaborate with dietary and nursing staff to monitor resident food intake and report any concerns or changes in appetite.
