Overview
The Building and Grounds Custodian, under general supervision, perform routine and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and administration assigned vehicles such as checking fluid levels, doing trip inspections, cleaning and washing vehicles and reporting any defect or repairs needed. Responsibilities also include performing a wide variety of custodial, maintenance and grounds keeping duties to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment; and performing other related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Clean vehicle interiors by sweeping vacuuming and wiping down the interior and windows
- Wash the vehicles' exterior with a water hose or at the City's wash rack
- Inspect vehicles for body damage, ensure they are safe, clean, operate properly, check fluid levels, and tire pressure
- Maintain daily and weekly trip tickets and process and post trip tickets
- Compile reports for department head review
- Clean and maintain the street yard and material yard facility/working area
- Empty trash, wipe counter and check fuel readings
- Schedule preventive maintenance
- Sweep floors, vacuum and spot clean carpets, and pick up outside trash in street yard and material yard area
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the car wash area
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and locker rooms, refill toilet paper, paper towels, soap dispensers, etc
- Empty out wastebaskets and dispose of trash properly
- Clean administrative offices, street conference room and waiting area: vacuum, dust, clean windows and empty wastebaskets
- Drive two days of the week to Signs & Marking-Sign Shop to clean offices and warehouse
- Maintain cleaning and janitorial supplies inventories, drive to pick up supplies from City warehouse and outside vendors as needed
- Maintain safe keeping of materials and supplies in storage area
- Mow grass and use weed eater on the street operation yard
- Sweep curb and gutters
- Operate power equipment and hand tools to complete job tasks
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
- Non-Exempt - Full-Time
- Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday. 8:00am-5:00pm
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- No prior experience is required
Licenses and Certifications

- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
