Maintenance Worker

Position Overview: Maintenance Worker / Public Works Technician

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance:

Plant, water, and maintain landscaped areas, including bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns.

Trim and prune bushes, trees, and shrubs; stake trees as needed.

Rake leaves and clear debris from sidewalks, parks, fields, and recreation areas.

Apply herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides to landscaped zones in accordance with safety guidelines.

Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities.

Facility and Park Maintenance:

Maintain and clean park buildings, including restrooms, gymnasiums, and other public facilities.

Irrigation and Water System Maintenance:

Perform maintenance and repairs on the city's irrigation systems:

Adjust and replace sprinkler heads.

Maintain and program irrigation controllers.

Assist with large-scale irrigation installation and upgrades.

Water Utility and Infrastructure Maintenance:

Excavate, inspect, flush, clean, and repair water mains, service lines, and laterals.

Tap into mains for new water service installations.

Install, repair, and replace:

Manholes, fire hydrants, valves, meters, meter vaults, and boxes.

Test, disassemble, clean, and repair commercial and residential water meters.

Identify and replace worn or faulty meter components.

Tools, Equipment & Safety:

Use various general construction tools and mechanical equipment.

Follow established safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.

Skills & Abilities:

Ability to learn and perform semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks.

Ability to safely operate a range of equipment under routine supervision.

Demonstrated willingness to work in outdoor environments and respond to maintenance needs in various weather conditions.
