Seattle's farm to table bakery is hiring a full time baker to join our crew.
At Salmonberry, we make farm-to-table food, bakes, and sourdough bread alongside a year-round CSA/produce delivery sourced exclusively from small independent family farms, grow our own microgreens and ferment kombucha in-house. We operate year-round at the Ballard farmers market on Sunday, during the week at Salmonberry Green Grocer in Sunset Hill, and deliver fresh veg and sourdough bread to homes around Seattle in a food movement to preserve small farmland and the earth.
We're a small team and we work hard to execute large runs of craft pastry and sourdough bread. Multiple years of foodservice/back of house/prep/baking experience and a serious work ethic is required. We expect self-motivation, a serious professional awareness of food safety, physical endurance for 10-hour production days, and quick responsible transitions around a kitchen. Must be comfortable with a variety of tasks: be ready to pack boxes, shape scones, sheet dough, shape bagels and sourdough, break down fruit/veg, crush dishes, scale dry ingredients, etc. Equipment in use includes deck and convection ovens, dough sheeters, spiral and planetary mixers, scales, and detailed shaping/work with hands.
Bakers work 4 days a week, 10 hour days. Availability for this position is Tues-Weds-Fri-Sat or Tues-Fri-Sat-Sun. Start times typically 5am or 7am, but ideally available for one 4am start. Must have reliable transportation.
You are: professional, calm, communicative, lighthearted. A team player and eager contributor who can give and receive criticism with ease. New processes aren't a challenge but an opportunity. You have a strict attention to detail and stay organized in all working environments. You have a great attitude and always ready to push until the job is done. Something doesn't have to be wrong in order to improve it. Good fits are passionate about food systems, baking, cooking, local agriculture and the natural world. Be physically prepared for full days in the kitchen. Be mentally prepared to always stay positive. Everybody does their dishes and everyone chooses the music. No egos.
Pay begins at $23-28 DOE. Full time folks eligible to join company healthcare plan (for 2025 it's 80% employer-covered Kaiser Gold), 30% team discount on anything we carry/make, and growth opportunities. Minimum of 1 year commitment necessary to be considered.
To apply, reply with your resume and a cover letter including;
- a list of the music you like to play while working,
- your favorite things to cook or bake and why,
- your availability,
- and why you think you'd be a good fit for our team.
Stoked to meet you!
