POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Services Technician plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors at our 16-bed inpatient behavior health unit. This position supports infection prevention, safety standards, and the overall therapeutic environment. The Technician will follow established procedures for cleaning and sanitation, participate in routine environment of care checks, and assist with room turnovers and minor facility tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Environment Cleaning & Infection Control
- Perform Daily and terminal cleaning of patient rooms, bathrooms, common areas, staff spaces, and clinical support areas.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning agents.
- Maintain cleanliness of high-touch surfaces, floors, and furniture throughout the unit.
- Disinfect isolation rooms according to safety guidelines.
Environment of Care Support
- Participate in routine environment of care inspections and log finding.
- Ensure that safety hazards, spills, or malfunctioning equipment are reported and addressed promptly.
- Replenish supplies (toilet paper, soap, sanitizer, etc.) and restock housekeeping carts and storage closets.
- Support room turnover process by cleaning and preparing spaces between admissions/discharges.
Facility & Safety Compliance
- Monitor and document compliance with CARF, IDOH and OSHA environmental standards.
- Secure and properly use chemicals and cleaning materials in accordance with material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks (light bulb changes, furniture adjustments, etc.) as directed.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response protocols.
Team Collaboration & Professional Conduct
- Collaborate respectfully with clinical staff to minimize disruption to patient care.
- Interact courteously with patients and visitors while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Attend mandatory trainings, including infection control and safety in a behavioral health setting.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Required:- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in janitorial, housekeeping, or environmental services.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, push carts, and stand for extended periods of time.
- Basic understanding of infection control and cleaning practices.
- Experience in a healthcare or behavioral setting.
- Familiarity with CARF or CMS standards.
- Training in de-escalation or trauma-informed care (organization will provide HWC)
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, therapeutic inpatient setting with exposure to chemicals, bodily fluids, and occasional behavioral disturbances.
- Schedule may include weekends, holidays, or flexible shifts.
