This position is located in the linen distribution area within the Environmental Management Services Division of Northern Indiana VA Healthcare System. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. The incumbent performs a variety of duties shipping/receiving linens and textiles. Incumbent also performs a variety of custodial and janitorial work.To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/08/2025.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
The incumbent's duties require moderate to heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs.; continuous standing, bending, and stooping; walking; crawling; kneeling; use of ladders; climbing of stairs; straight pushing and pulling; reaching above shoulder; and use of fingers. The incumbent must have sufficient visual ability to see basic colors, dust, dirt, and cobwebs.
The Laundry Worker performs their duties in all areas of the hospital and outbuildings. The incumbent frequently rotates assigned areas and may be directed to change cleaning areas without notice from their supervisor. The Laundry Worker usually works in well-lighted and well-ventilated areas under generally favorable working conditions. The incumbent must be alert to safety hazards and observe and follow safe practices and procedures when using chemical solutions, contaminated materials, and sharp objects. The Laundry Worker may have exposure to outside and inside excessive heat, cold, humidity and excessive dampness and chilling, intermittent noise, dust, fumes, smoke and gases; slippery and uneven walking surfaces; working around machinery with moving parts; working moving objects and vehicles; working on ladders or scaffolding; work alone and closely with others. The incumbent may have brief exposure to inclement weather.
The Laundry Worker uses potentially dangerous equipment and chemicals while performing daily tasks. The incumbent must be aware of their surroundings, perform duties in a safe manner and acknowledge and adjust planned duties, if necessary, in the presence of Veterans, Staff and Visitors.No education requirements.
