Maitre D/Lead Host
We are seeking a talented and ambitious Maitre D to join our team of driven and enthusiastic hospitality professionals. Holeman and Finch is a classic gastropub, presenting artisanal twists on classic dishes with a whole animal, whole vegetable philosophy. With a robust wine list and original, inspired cocktails, there's something for everybody at every time of day. The charming space is filled with cozy booths and over 150 pieces of thoughtfully curated art. In every corner, the restaurant nods to the vibrant arts scene found in Midtown.
What is the Job?
The Maitre D plays a crucial role in gracious and excellent service, ensuring guests are greeted promptly and properly, leading and training the host team, communicating special guest requests, and taking ownership for the overall guest experience. They support FOH managers in all aspects of the dining room experience, ensuring that the music and lighting are appropriate for the time of day, checking table settings, spot checking bathrooms, and adjusting décor in the space. They exemplify the spirit of hospitality, leading by example in polished uniforms and professional presence.
In addition, the Maitre D works closely with the Events team, acting as a liaison for tours and connecting contacts with our Events team.
What are the responsibilities?
- Serves as a liaison between the guest and the guest experience. Advocates for the guest and shares their expectations for their dinner/event.
- Warmly greet guests when they arrive and thank them when they are leaving. Always display superior hospitality to guests. Calling them by name whenever possible.
- Record and communicate guest needs, notes, and special occasions accurately in all applicable technology and in a timely fashion.
- Maintain the accuracy of OpenTable ensuring that the flow of business is properly set up each day. Make recommendations to the General Manager for any opportunities.
- Answer phones, check voicemails, and communicate messages to the proper recipients in a timely fashion.
- Maintain robust knowledge of company-wide events and programs and actively share information with staff and guests.
- Answer guest questions with knowledge, kindness and confidence concerning menu, restaurant, and private events.
- Work with the leadership team to ensure all guest requests are understood, able to be executed and known by all members of the team the night of their dinner/event.
- Ensure staff is implementing excellent service, hospitality, food and beverage consistently during the course of service by noting any discrepancies or challenges and following up with leadership team.
- Assist with interviewing of host team candidates and make recommendations to the leadership team.
- Consistently models professionalism with training and coaching of new and tenured host staff.
- Assist to build long-term, value-based guest relationships with guests and local businesses, assisting with concierge visits to local hotels and offices, and engaging with regulars. Further, listening to feedback from guests to ensure they had a positive dining experience from start to finish and following up with the aid of the General Manager to ensure any concerns are addressed appropriately.

What are the requirements?
- 2+ years of relevant hospitality experience
- Knowledge of OpenTable a plus
- Able to stand for long periods of time; occasionally kneel, bend, and crouch as required to reach items at varying height levels
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment calmly and effectively
