Summary The position of Equipment Operator II can encompass a variety of tasks, depending on crew. These duties consist of but are not limited to: The Operation of various types of heavy equipment such as Loaders, Backhoes, rollers etc., as part of the Reconstruction Crew. The patching of potholes and utility cuts as part of the Asphalt (Patch) Crew, and the operation of a bucket truck while trimming and removing vegetation along City ROW as part of the Forestry Crew. Essential Duties & Responsibilities by Crew Assignments Reconstruction Crew Operates loaders, backhoe, and gradall in street reconstruction work and full depth repair work. Remove asphalt and concrete, excavate sub-grade to desired grade and load dump trucks. Operates various trucks: dump truck, backhoe, loader, roller, etc. while performing tasks related to street reconstruction and maintenance of City streets, alleys, drainages, rights-of-way, and other property Hauls dirt, grass, road base, asphalt, water, pipe, equipment, debris, and other material used Uses hand tools and equipment for tasks associated such as shoveling, hammering, and picking Performs routine preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment Forestry Crew Assists on a crew to trim and cut trees along City streets and alleys Chips tree limbs and brush or to load them on a dump truck Clears trees, brush and vines from drainages and creeks and reviews for stoppage Drainage Crew Operates backhoes, loader, and other various equipment: dump truck, backhoe, wheel loader, dozer, boom mower, excavator, etc. while performing tasks related to the maintenance of City creeks, detention ponds, and drainage channels Uses hand tools and equipment for tasks associated such as shoveling, hammering, and picking Performs routine preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment Sweeper Crew Operates a regenerative air street sweeper following an established route to sweep City streets, and other areas as assigned Deposits sweeping debris at landfill, and fill truck with water Completes daily maintenance of truck, ensuring that hopper and screens in sweeper body are cleaned, and all safety equipment (rotating beacon light, flashing lights, camera, etc.) are always operational. Assembles gutter brooms for sweeper, sweeping before and after asphalt and seal coat work, and sweeping other City of Temple areas when assigned Asphalt Repair Crew Operates patch truck in the patching of potholes, utility cuts in streets and alleys Prepares jobsite and lay asphalt material for new construction, overlay and major street repairs All Crew Member - Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities Takes on leadership role in absence of Crew Leader Works in emergency situations with sanding oil spills and frozen streets, etc Assists other crews in the performance of duties as needed Rotates on-call for nights, weekends, and emergency calls Follows policies, procedures, safety guidelines and inspections of equipment and tools Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Internal Candidates

High School diploma or equivalent

Two (2) years of City of Temple experience

External Candidates

High School diploma or equivalent

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Internal Candidates

Class A CDL

Flagger Training

TXLTAP Training - 72 Hrs

External Candidates:

Class A CDL

Flagger Training within 6 months TXLTAP Training may supplement 4 years of outside experience (truck driving and construction equipment) for TXLAP training, then 72hrs within 12 months
