Position Summary:

The Lead Nonprofit Event Planner is responsible for the strategy, planning, and execution of House of Ruth Maryland's (HRM) income-generating and stewardship events. This includes oversight of signature fundraising events such as the Spring Event, Crabaret, Adopt-a-Family, and Fill the House, as well as coordination of third-party fundraising partnerships. The role requires excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and vendors while collaborating with internal departments and volunteers. Specifically, this position would be directly involved with income generating events, and would act in a support role for all other events as needed and available. The ideal candidate would have event planning experience, demonstrated community connections, be highly organized, be able to communicate effectively, and be comfortable working closely with board members, event chairs, and event committee members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Takes ownership of the events process, including planning, execution, and day-to-day management.
  • Manages logistics of all special events, including Spring event, Spring Concert, Crabaret, Adopt a family, Fill the house and stewardship events. This includes preparing mailings, name tags, working with venues, staffing committee meetings, preparing meeting minutes, update/communicate timelines, print materials, and all aspects of special events planning.
  • Works closely with board members, vendors, other departments, and staff to lead and grow revenue generating events.
  • Takes the lead on all aspects of other development events, including dinners and cocktail parties hosted by Board members, recognition events, milestone events, etc.
  • Develops new and cultivates existing vendor relationships.
  • Assists with obtaining corporate sponsorships for events and managing sponsor relations.
  • Assists Associate Director of Development on Third Party Fundraisers, which occur when another group hosts a fundraiser benefitting HRM. The Events Manager will negotiate the hosting organization's needs (for invitation, materials at events, etc.) and either attend or coordinate attendance by appropriate staff, volunteer or HRM representative.
  • Provides data entry support for Raiser's Edge and ETO as needed and related to agency events.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of HRM programs, activities, focus areas, strategic directions and financial situation to inform website information, volunteer projects/needs, and social media postings.
  • Prepares and presents summary reports to Agency directors and leadership team.
  • Stays abreast of current best practices in the field and proactively identifies and builds potential relationships, partnerships, and sponsors.
  • Provides post-event analysis including metrics, expenses, donor engagement, and lessons learned.

Pay: $62,000 - $66,000

Experience, Education, Certifications/Licenses

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience.
  • 5 years of nonprofit fundraising event planning experience required.
  • 3 or more years of non-profit fundraising event experience is a highly preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills. Database experience preferred. Raiser's Edge, WordPress, Social Pilot, and Active Campaign a plus.
  • Experience in using social media, and email platforms as well as making basic updates to the HRM website as needed for events.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Reliable and consistent transportation.
  • Ability to understand intimate partner violence (IPV) and how it affects the client population.
  • Experience in working successfully across departments and teams to achieve objectives.
  • Willing to work flexible hours. Will require periodic nights and weekends.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, experience with planning and project management, and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be flexible, able to identify and resolve problems, work collaboratively, take responsibility for work and projects, and successfully manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
