Evening Custodian

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.):

1.Performs cleaning and related activities (shovel, plow, & sand) such as removing snow or debris from walkways, driveways, parking areas, and stairways, as needed, using hand-operated tools or small power equipment. May be required outside normal working hours, i.e., weekends, holidays, daytime, evenings, etc.

2.Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

3.Assists other employees with job-related issues per the Facilities Director or the Evening Supervisor.

4.Safety/Security/Sanitation: Responds to, reports, and removes any safety hazards; reports and repairs damage to school site property; reports unauthorized visitors; secures gates, doors, windows, and grounds; sets alarm system; responds to emergency cleanups such as spills and clogged drains.

5.Reports major repairs needed promptly to the supervisor.

6.Strips, cleans, buffs, and applies floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum, and shampoo carpets

7.Performs general cleaning on an as-needed basis.

8.Maintains the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition by cutting grass, raking, pruning, weeding, trimming shrubs, picking up trash, etc.

9.Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.

10.Moves furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as required by school and/or other activities.

11.Attends safety meetings and other related meetings.

12.Handles recycling materials.

13.Reports immediately any damage or repairs needed to school property, including buildings, vehicles, and equipment, to the Shift Supervisor and/or Director of Facilities.

14.Safely operates all vehicles and other job-related equipment.

15.Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

16.Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

17.May be required to run errands to conduct school business; pick up or delivery of supplies & materials, equipment, or to fulfill postal needs.

18.Other duties as may be assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Director of Facilities, or Superintendent-Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Duties will be performed inside the school buildings, on the grounds of the campus, and off-site (as needed). The individual may be exposed to chemicals that are used in daily custodial and maintenance responsibilities. The individual may be exposed to various hazards at worksites or while driving. Maybe required to walk and stand for long periods of time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:This is a 12-month position, 40 hours per week. Salary as per the Maintenance and Custodial Workers Agreement. Fringe benefits will be in accordance with the District Benefits Policy for Custodian/Maintenance Staff.

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the School Committee Policy in regard to support staff.QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a working knowledge of computers.
3. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
4. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to work independently.
5. Must be able to work on multiple tasks at the same time, set priorities, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
6. Must have a valid driver's license.
7. Other qualifications as may be required by the Superintendent-Director.
