Duties include, but are not limited to:

Ensure Medical Center is in compliance with all Federal, Ste and local laws and regulions pertaining to service activities in the areas of pest control, waste management, the Environment of Care and other reled EPA concerns.

Participe in groups and committees or may lead teams in preparion for site s of the above accrediting agencies, (i.e. JCAHO, CARP).

Ensure compliance with department and medical center directives, and communices all such directives to subordine employees. Ensures th recurrent reports to Medical Center Management or VACO are completed in an accure and timely manner.

Responsible for overseeing, supervising, implementing and supporting a comprehensive program th reports directly to the Chief, Environmental Management Service.

Coordines daily activities of the section with those of other services through verbal and written communicions.

Responsible for implementing a Total Quality Management Plan in order to provide a systemic and rional process for the ongoing monitoring and evaluion of the quality of service provided.

Responsible for the utilizion of resources and identificion of areas of risk to the Medical Center.

Performs personnel management functions the service level including interviewing and hiring new employees, counseling, evaluing performance, developing training plans, and taking disciplinary or adverse action as necessary.

Actively supports EEO and affirmive action programs. Actively promotes effective labor-management relions and constantly strives to improve employee morale and employee relions.

Supervisory Stement: A one year supervisory probion period may be required for this position.

Undergradue Educion: Major study -- chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administrion, institutional sanition or administrion, hospital administrion, hotel administrion, public administrion, business administrion, or other fields reled to the position.

Gradue Educion: Major study -- public health or business administrion with emphasis in hospital administrion.

Experience

Specialized Experience: Experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work reled to the position to be filled:

Experience th demonstred a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanition, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitizion, and/or sterilizion of surfaces and equipment.

Experience in laundry and linen management.

Experience in interior design management.

Experience th demonstred a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements reling to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition.

Experience th demonstred a knowledge of pest management, including alternive methods of control and the selection and applicion of chemicals.

In addition to meeting the above requirements, you may qualify based on your experience as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupion in the organizion. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: assisting in the planning, organizing, directing, evaluing, and management process for the service which includes setting qualitive and quantitive standards; assist in the development and provides the Medical Center Management and the clinical staff informion on the methods, techniques and procedures necessary to integre the Environmental Management Service into the mission of the medical center; develops and implements an orderly system of management objectives and program review and evaluion procedures which will result in an effective service.
