Position: Clerk/Receptionist, Communications

Location: Administration Building

Primary Purpose:

Assist in facilitating the efficient operation of the communications department and administration building. Handle confidential information and respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and the public. Under the supervision of the communications director, provide requested information and/or referral to the appropriate parties; direct visitors; and provide general clerical support for the efficient operation of the central administration office.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of school district organization and operations (preferred)
  • Effective public relations, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate multi-line phone system
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations
  • Proficient in keyboarding, word processing, file maintenance, computers and use of general office equipment
  • Bilingual preferred

Experience:

  • Two years of clerical experience in an office setting, public school environment (preferred)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and direct incoming calls, take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.
  • Greet visitors (e.g. public, parents, students, substitutes, vendors, etc.) respond to their inquiries and/or direct them to appropriate personnel in accordance with district policies and procedures regarding building security.
  • Maintain visitor log and issue visitor passes.
  • Respond to emergency calls and notify appropriate parties to address immediate safety and/or security issues.
  • Receive deliveries and disseminate materials and information to the appropriate parties.
  • Provide clerical assistance as needed.
  • Assist with print shop orders and responsibilities.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; multi-line phone system

Posture : Continuous sitting

Motion : Repetitive hand motions including reaching; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse

Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (30 pounds)

Environment : Reception desk in the administrative/central office

Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

The district contributes $400 /monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.

Pay Grade: PG 2, 240 Days

Minimum $13.25 hourly / $25,440 annually

Midpoint $15.96 hourly / $30,643 annually

Salary based on experience.
