Under limited supervision, to perform general and varied landscaping/grounds keeping maintenance work; to perform skilled and semi-skilled landscape and grounds work; to operate power-driven equipment; snow removal as required; care of trees, flowers and shrubs, apply herbicides and pesticides and to do related work as required. Position Accountabilities

Comply with appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Understand and follow oral and written instructions and standard work procedures. Work cooperatively with others. Maintain routine records. Observe legal and defensive driving principles. Practice proper safety practices in the operation of mowers and grounds equipment. Tasks are performed by using a safe and proper manner. All duties performed are done so in a highly professional manner that reflects the departments core values:

Planting and maintenance - Perform planting, watering, weeding, spraying,

fertilizing, mulching and cleanup of all annuals, perennials, shrub beds, borders,

and water features. Maintain, water, and fertilize all outdoor potted plants, making

seasonal changes as required.

Equipment - Operate various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws,

edgers, shears, light or medium weight trucks, Bobcat, et cetera, to pick up and

deliver materials and supplies, and light or medium tractors and attachments

used to maintain grounds as needed. Inspect the equipment to be used each day

to ensure that it is in safe and proper working order. Repair equipment that is not

in proper working order or see that it is repaired by the proper mechanic. Clean

equipment daily, or at the end of each use, to insure a professional image and

increase the life of the equipment.

Responsible to coordinate volunteer planting/educational events for Park

students, staff and faculty. EX: Earth Day, Arbor Day, Tree dedications, etc.

Responsible to know and adhere to best practices relating to OSHA and EPA

standards.

Working knowledge of plant care: disease, insect, soil types, fertility, etc.

Rakes leaves, removes trash and rubbish, and sweeps related grounds areas. Cleans and maintains exterior drains to prevent flooding. Pre-treats walkways, pathways, parking lots and roadways with anti-icing products to prevent bonding to surfaces. Snow removal as needed to create a safe environment during winter months.

Position Requirements:

1. Bachelor of Science in Horticulture or equivalent preferred.

2. Minimum 5 years previous landscaping and grounds experience.

3. Missouri Certified Pesticide Applicators license preferred

4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

5. Ability to read and write the English language

6. Must follow written and oral instructions

7. Must have a valid Missouri drivers license and qualify for insurability by Park

University insurance carrier

Physical Requirements

1. Good health with adequate strength and endurance to perform the work

described in various types of weather.

2. Ability to lift and carry items weighing 100 pounds.

3. Flexible day/evening/weekend hours as required by needs of facility

4. Physical ability to perform assigned duties

Physical demands and Working conditions

1. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move items with a maximum weight of 100 pounds.

2. Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and to walk, stand, kneel or stoop for extended periods of time.

3. Ability to hear and recognize sound, have near and far visual acuity and to orally communicate.

4. Strength and physical dexterity to operate hand and power equipment and tools, and to perform work with occasional exposure to dust, grease, smoke, noxious odors, gases, and mechanical and electrical hazards.

5. Ability to perform work with exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather.

6. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.
