Position Overview: As a MOHS Technician at Skin and Aesthetic Centers, you will play a vital role in the MOHS micrographic surgery procedure. This position involves the preparation and examination of tissue specimens to assist the surgeon in determining the presence of cancer cells. MOHS Technicians work closely with the surgeons to ensure accurate and timely results, ultimately contributing to the successful treatment of skin cancer patients. Key Responsibilities: Timely Execution: Handle all duties in a timely and organized manner. Supply Management: Order and manage inventory of medical supplies. Pathology Preparation: Complete pathology requisition forms with accurate patient information and prepare human tissue sections for microscopic examination under surgeon supervision. Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy and quality of laboratory results by following established protocols and quality control procedures. Specimen Preparation: Receive, label and log tissue specimens for MOHS surgeries. Prepare tissue sections using appropriate techniques, such as freezing, embedding, and cutting. Stain tissue sections using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and other stains as needed. Microscopic Examination: Examine stained tissue sections under a microscope to identify and evaluate the presence of cancer cells. Collaborate with the MOHS surgeon to ensure the accuracy of results and timely diagnosis. Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, including microscopes, cryostats, and staining machines. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including specimen logs, staining records, and quality control data. Maintain and ensure accuracy to all CLIA required documentation/logs. Waste Management: Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Assist in maintaining an organized and efficient laboratory environment. OSHA Compliance: Review and follow posted OSHA instructions/requirements including hazardous waste, needle stick injuries, and emergency evacuations. Prepares laboratory for daily operation, checks temperatures, all equipment, machines and documents. Receives tissue specimens and enters into log book. Process tissue for sectioning, stain slides, coverslip and label slides. Opens laboratory for daily operation, checks temperatures, all equipment, machines and document Performs Mohs micrographic frozen tissue slide preparation. Log in all incoming consultation slides and prepares slides for surgeons. Log in all Pathology reports, accession and pull charts for surgeon review. File slides and blocks. Maintain order in laboratory and compliance to safety regulations Appropriately dispose of biohazardous waste. Any additional duties as determined and assigned by either laboratory supervisor or medical director. Qualifications: Experience: Associates or Bachelor's degree of Science (minimum of 6 credit hours in sciences.) Preferred: previous experience as MOHS Technician or histotechnology. Certification: Preferred: Certification as a MOHS Technician or relevant experience in histotechnology. Skills: Strong understanding of histopathology and tissue processing techniques. Commitment to patient care and confidentiality. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with medical billing procedures is advantageous. Education: High School Diploma or GED.
